Walls are not unlike a blank canvas. They can be finished to be a subtle and beautiful backdrop, or a stunning accent to create a totally unique space. These two wall galleries exemplify some of the possibilities for subtle or dynamic expression.

Lime wash can be used outdoors with the most exciting results. When applied to raw unsealed stucco walls the blooming pattern is very organic and natural.<em>Blooming</em> is what the lime does as it dries. More lime rises through the pigment in certain areas than in others. The result is a soft mottled surface with darker and lighter contrasting areas. With this finish I was mimicking very old crumbling green plaster walls. With various layers of tinted hot mud and blue and green washes I was able to achieve this finish. With this finish my goal was to come up with a something that had a look similar to a metallic embossed leather wall covering sample that the designer liked. To produce this very unique finish I used a host of items: 1 inch putty knife home depot (synthetic but flexible) Venetian plaster, gold paint, brown toner, and a paint sprayer. This was a tiny powder room with a cool old Chinese cabinet used as a vanity for a brass basin. The designer wanted a warm, affordable, and Zen like finish. I applied a couple coats of champagne metallic paint with a brush and then added an antiquing glaze over the top to tone it down. These walls are done with an unusual finish. We applied thick coats of red milk paint and then a coat of satin polyurethane. The walls are crusty looking with a very pleasing glow. The garden wall was dark green stucco with an even darker natural pigment glaze faux finished over it. This is a quick and easy technique to get more depth and movement in the wall's finish. The final result worked very well with all historical architectural stonework on site.
