This wood paneled ceiling is hand painted with Dutch enamel. No fancy technique here, just several coats and sandings. This truly is my favorite when it comes to interior trim paint. It's of such a higher caliber than domestic paints and it really shows! This before shot shows the bad condition the ceiling prior to my work. The roof was raised and wall moved around in this older beach residence. As a result the ceiling was a real mess. After shot of the ceiling. Here's what a whole lot of prep can do for a job. It was hard work, lots of overhead patching and sanding, but in the end well worth it! This was a really cool old house from the 20's in Del Mar. All the wooden old growth Douglas fir ceilings were a very dull solid brown tone. After a good sand blasting and some matte sealer, they are beautiful and amazing. I used a very fine sand on this job so as not to heavily texture the wood. This Alder wood door was base coated with white conversion varnish then stained and flyspecked to match kitchen cabinets. Here's a fun finish on the doorjamb. I applied a very thick coat of an off white milk paint, got it to crackle, then applied a coat of light brown bee's wax. The result was ancient looking farmhouse paint effect. The basin of this fountain is made of stucco. The finish is paint with a darker paint color rubbed over to age it. The lion fountainheads are made of concrete. The color scheme I developed in the spirit of the great French artist Niki de St. Phalle. The paint is House of Kolor Kustom paint. It was developed for use on hot rods and motorcycles, but also looks great on fountainheads! I painted the light surround here to look like bronze. I custom mixed a metallic paint and an antiquing glaze. Notice how the surround matches the real bronze tiled wall in the background... a thoughtful touch. These are before and after images of a pair of sconces. The designer liked the style, just not the color. My task was to match them to a nearby chandelier. The tone was a warm antique silver. Here is one of my all time favorite lights. This is an artificial / cast resign antler chandelier with an expensive paint job. It's coated with several layers of high gloss automotive yellow paint. I can definitely put this project on the I've painted most everything list.
